Someone once asked...

“I knew moving to a different country wasn’t going to be a wonderland. I wasn’t expecting everything to be easy or perfect. I knew there would be challenges, uncomfortable situations and days when things wouldn’t go as planned. I mentally prepared myself for that before making the decision to leave. But I guess some experiences are difficult to prepare for. The subtle racism, the little comments, the looks and certain interactions that make you feel different or unwelcome. It’s not always direct, and sometimes it’s difficult to explain why something bothered you, but it stays with you. On top of that, things haven’t really turned out the way I imagined. I’ve been feeling increasingly lonely, and navigating everything on my own can be mentally exhausting. It’s not that I expected life abroad to be perfect; I knew it would take effort to build a life here. But I didn’t expect certain experiences to affect me this much. I’m trying to adapt, keep going and not let individual incidents get to me, but some days it’s just a lot to process. I suppose I’m struggling more with the emotional side of this experience than I ever anticipated.”
