Someone once asked...

“Why do I get embarrassed about things I did five years ago?”

✦

Someone answered with kindness...

Well, depends on what it is... If it's something crazy, that will likely never leave you but that is OK. Just move on, and realize that feeling may never leave. Try to laugh about it.

It's because we are drawn to familiarity. The more familiar you are with a situation, the more likely you are to relive or replay it in your mind. Name an acquaintance, someone you're not too close with. Within 10 seconds, try to remember something embarrassing that they did. What about a close friend? Can you name an instance? We, as people, are too occupied with ourselves to remember things about other people. The chance that people remember the specific moment you felt embarrassed is relatively low. People who care about you are unlikely to weaponize a moment against you. The right people care about things that matter.
