Someone once asked...

Why am I afraid to tell people what I really need?

Someone answered with kindness...

A woman once told me she'd rather silently resent someone than ask them for help. I asked what she thought would happen if she asked. "They'd think less of me," she said. "Or say no." Most of us learned somewhere that needing things was a burden to others, or a weakness in ourselves — so we got skilled at managing alone, and quietly furious at people for not reading our minds. But nobody can meet a need they were never told about. Asking isn't weakness. It's just honesty, arriving a little late, after years of practicing silence instead.
