“What would a world without capitalism look like?”

Someone answered with kindness...

I think the harder question isn't what the world would look like without capitalism. It's what we would do with ourselves if survival no longer depended on being economically useful. Would we still work as hard? Would we still want more? Would we still compare ourselves to our neighbours? Maybe we'd discover that some things we call "ambition" are really fear. And maybe we'd discover that some of the things we call "work" are things we'd choose to do anyway, if money weren't involved. I don't know what a world without capitalism would look like. But I think it's worth asking what kind of world we'd build if we were finally free to decide what our time was for.
