Someone once asked...

What if the life I wanted was never meant for me?

Someone answered with kindness...

I met a woman who spent a decade grieving a life she never got to live — the marriage that didn't happen, the career she almost had. She described it in such detail I almost believed it was a memory instead of a wish. I asked her, gently, "How long will you mourn something that was never actually taken from you?" She didn't have an answer that day. I'm not sure she has one now. But I think about her sometimes, and I hope she's found her way to the life that's actually hers — imperfect, unchosen, but real. That's the only one any of us ever really get.
