Someone once asked...

What if I never become the person I wanted to be?

Someone answered with kindness...

A student once confessed to me the person he'd imagined at twenty was nothing like the man he was at forty. He said it like a confession of failure. I asked him to describe that twenty-year-old's plan. He did. It was detailed, ambitious — and written by someone who had never lived a single year of the life that came after. The person you imagined was drawn without the information you have now. Not becoming them isn't always loss. Sometimes it means you grew past a blueprint too small for the life you were actually given.
