Someone once asked...

“Social media algorithms are not inherently political—they simply optimize for user engagement and screen time. However, because outrage and fear generate the highest click-through rates, calmer, nuanced discussions are naturally buried while provocative, extreme views dominate our feeds." "If code is designed merely to reflect and magnify what keeps us hooked, are algorithms neutral tools—or do they bear direct moral responsibility for shattering societal trust?”

Someone answered with kindness...

Moral responsibility is a hefty thing, one that a simple machine, or rather even a complex machine, cannot be held accountable. However, the people responsible for designing these machines that ultimately do promote unhealthy discourse do bear moral responsibility, and cannot be allowed to hide behind the machine. Societal trust is at an all time low, and the only way it can be fixed is if we work everyday to build a stronger sense of community, we know the system only desires distrust and will never work to rebuild it, but damn the system because we can.
