Heh, this happened to me too. 
You must be there for yourself..... If you can't defend yourself, you'll become inferior and this is serious!
You gotta fight back. 
Start talking to her privately and tell her that she crossed the line. 
Also tell her, if she ever did that again, you'll not hold back in public.
Your mum is a human too, she can understand what you're saying.
