Someone once asked...

“Many people say AI is causing issues. I agree but also think it has its uses. I use it to generate quizzes on various subjects I'm learning about, for instance. I do not particularly support ai, but don't think it should be scraped from the earth's memory. It seems like everyone is on anti ai or support ai side. I am in the middle.”

I definitely think AI has its positives and negatives, like most other things in the world. I do think generative AI can have negatives impacts, especially environmentally and intellectually. Data centers have been known to use quite a bit of water, and also heavily pollute the air around it (to the point of hospitalization, for some people). And I don't think we should ignore their intentional placement in lower class neighborhoods (that are mostly people of color), either. AI has also had negative impacts on people's brain, and I am scared of people, especially students, relying on it so much. But those effects were specifically about generative AI. Non-generative AI can do so much good in fields like medicine, or tech in general. I wish more people would understand, or clarify that their strong opposition is specifically for generative AI, and not AI as a whole. AI in general can do great things for us in the future!

I think a lot of ais are useful, LLMs just are hyped up to much. theyre okay at summarizing media and it's instant. if youre looking for a word but forget it or dont know the vocab, itll find it. they dont know everything though and have bias. i feel like everyone who loves ai doesnt value work in any way and everyone who hates ai is parroting the opinion of someone on the internet, it's so frustrating. id rather the people who hate it though because it can be dangerous. i feel like it's just a buzzword for most people, ai has been around for decades. people get mad at me for explaining how ais work.
