Hi! I'm polyam (shortened form for polyamorous)! I can't say I've seen it as "popular", especially in my area, but I'm polyam not because I can't find one person who meets my basic wants, but because I feel like I have a lot of love to give and sometimes its not always just for one person. I love all my partners a lot! Some more platonically than romantically and some more complicated than that. I think, though, everyone has their own reasons for being polyam. Some people prefer the relationship anarchy it brings, some have lots of love and fall fast, some make slow but tight relationships over long times, and some people have different kinds of relationships within it for lots of reason, including the one you mentioned! It really depends on the person and their polycule. And if you approach a polyamorous person kindly and politely, most of them, I find, are happy to explain their own views. <3
