“I'm 18 years in a very religious and conservative household my parents both religous .they have sacrifice alot to bring me to where I am today but they make sure that they remind everyday by berating and insulting me ..despite the fact that they are respectful to everyone else .
I understand culture is a big thing but it bothers me alot ..now especially since I've become an atheist. I know if they found out they would hurt me badly and I would bring not only shame in my family but I would be further ostracized in my community. I'm scared.i know I have duty as a daughter to fulfill. But I feel trapped and suffocated. I love my parents
....
But I'm struggling to navigate this .coming out is not an option I've heard and seen what happens to those who even dare try. How do I atleast cope with this claustrophobia.”

Someone answered with kindness...
I relate with this so much.
My parents are also very religious and insult me.
Having Asian parents is very hard..
All I can advice you is that do what makes you happy..I know it’s hard
Even now..I’m also tired of being constantly berated and then they ask “why are you always cooped up in your room?”
It’s frustrating I know..
But try to do little things that make your day..like watching something or anything you like..
You’re not alone..
And I believe in you!
Hope you have more happier days :)
