It depends on the context. If they truly love you, they would've known that you aren't the type to do something like that. If they are to instantly believe the rumours and attack you for it, do not go begging them to believe you. They won't, they never wanted to. Don't waste your time over them. However, if they come upto you for clarification, if they ask you "hey i heard so about you, what's going on?" You should explain yourself to them. Because there, they care. It's very obvious that they care. And i believe, it's very important to explain yourself to those who actually care.
