“I was friends with a person who initially seemed very jovial , made others smile alot. Our friendship got clicked very quickly and things started moving fast , he asked for my number , we started chatting in WhatsApp, he gave me friend request in insta and we texted there too . We had late night calls , on one such call I asked him whether he has love story , he said yes and he said about the girl working on our floor , once our bonding became closer , he started expecting alot from me , like i shouldnt talk to people who don't talk to him , he deliberately made me wait for him at lunch eventhough it was getting late , once I start getting angry he goes into apologizing , but when I point out he's wrong he accuses me telling I shouldn't have spoken like that which made him break down , the girl broke up with him , but he's telling till now he doesn't know why she broke up with him.he tells he's the giver in this bonding , and I don't make any efforts on this friendship, and whenever I start chatting in para mode he asks me to delete everything as whatever I say is very painful , hes not able to accept the flaws from his side and he frequently talks about hurting himself to me , my bonding with him started to feel like tasks to do with him instead of unjudging and all random talks friendship , i tried telling that I'm not able to handle this friendship and he's telling I'm the one person he depended and even I'm doing the same like rest
I don't think he's honest and changes things on the go
How can I make him understand, I feel very exhausted at this point”

Someone answered with kindness...
Respectfully, Why do you want to make him understand?
Dear Friend,
From your message, it's quite evident that you've tried to change this behaviour of his, and that too, in multiple ways. If he still doesn't want to, then let him be. That means, you have to let him go. I'm not suggesting you to cut him off entirely as that won't be easy. But please do stop putting in an effort to turn an apple into an orange. True friendships are meant to be calming or a safe space to say the least. If it causes exhaustion, then it's no friendship, it's a one way ship that's bound to sink. As someone who's been with such a friend, trust me, your mental health is worth more than this friendship.
All the best to you.
