Someone once asked...

“I wanna love the fuck out of somebody and not end up looking stupid in the end." We crave the reckless, all-consuming abandon of true intimacy. Yet, modern romance is governed by emotional risk-management. To love deeply is to hand someone the knife with which they could destroy you; holding back keeps you safe, but leaves you half-alive. Question: Is total vulnerability in love an act of supreme courage, or a guaranteed path to foolishness? Can we ever truly love without calculating the exit strategy?”

Someone answered with kindness...

Maybe this is just my rational brain speaking, but I see total vulnerability as foolishness, to a certain degree. I think relationships can suddenly turn toxic, or volatile and dangerous. And as much as I wouldn't want to think about that, I'd want to be prepared for it. I think loving someone else is so beautiful and cool, but loving yourself is so important, and it may even save your life down the road.
