It's just gaslighting and he is talking to you whenever he feels like it . There's a high possibility he already has someone and didn't disclose it to you. But if u completely stop talking he fears losing grip over you. So he wants to be with you but not close. He wants to keep a distance from you but at the same time not letting you move on

I think you should care more about your feelings than his. You are the one getting more hurt in this process. You should priortize your mental health by leaving him. Trust me, you will find someone better. Someone who says I LY back and many times. Good Luck!
