Someone once asked...

“I miss my ex who i spent 5 years with from 20-25. she left because she felt exhausted but a year and a bit later I'm still reminiscing and in love. I also sometimes feel abandoned and deeply depressed”

✦

Someone answered with kindness...

That is normal, 5 years is a long time, and in your 20s that shapes a lot of who you are. Take time to grieve. Sounds cursi but really find yourself, do things you are passionate for when the time comes.

I've been in a similar place, so I understand how hard it can be, I'm not trying to compare our experiences, just relating where I can. Five years is a long time, so it makes sense that just a year later you're still grieving the relationship. Missing her doesn't mean you're failing to move on, and feeling abandoned can make the loneliness hit even harder. Try to let yourself grieve what yo had without putting your life on pause for the possibility of getting it back. Yo deserve to slowly build a life that feels like yours again, even if it takes time. And if the depression is getting really heavy please don't carry it completely alone. Talking to someone you trust or a professional can help.

You can miss who you were with her without losing who you are without her.
