Someone once asked...

“I have been having trouble starting my job search. I left my previous job 4 months ago, as it made every aspect of me go down the drain. Since then I have been recovering but not completely. I am not surrounded by good people, so that also effecting my recovery. I just want to know how to start my job search, honestly I feel so drained thinking about it, even taking one step to update my resume also feels so much.”

First, give yourself some credit for recognising that you needed to leave an environment that was affecting your well-being. Recovery isn't always linear, and four months doesn't mean you should be completely fine already. Don't approach your job search as something you need to accomplish all at once. Start ridiculously small: one day, simply open your old resume. Another day, update one section. Then spend 10–15 minutes browsing job listings without the pressure of applying. You don't have to rush into another job just to prove you're moving forward. Also, try to create some distance from people and environments that drain you. Your goal right now isn't just to find another job; it's to find a healthier environment where you can grow without losing yourself again. One small step at a time. You've got this.
