Someone once asked...

“I have an ex we have been on and off for years; I have been there for his heartbreaks, setbacks, the works, and recently we got back in touch. He is not what I want from my future partner, but he is somewhat home. Recently, I feel like maybe I do not want love or him at times, but at the same time I want love. He says he loves me; he calls me all these names, and I ignore any romantic notions. i have seen men like him in my family, good-for-nothing ones that leech off their wives. I do not want that, but I like talking to him.”

Someone answered with kindness...

Hey, it looks like he has become your comfort after you have been with him for so long. I get it, it's hard to leave that warmth behind. But i want to let you know that if he doesn't put the same efforts like you do, then you deserve better. It might be better to talk it out as well, maybe you will know if he truly values your feelings and willing to work for it.

Another soul answered...

I don't know if this is the answer you'd like to hear but here's one thing I can say: in life, your life partner is one of the few family members you get to choose. So, if you're making that choice, make sure it's someone you can genuinely see yourself spending the rest of your life with. If you enjoy talking to him, that's perfectly fine. But it doesn't necessarily have to develop into a romantic relationship. You can care about someone, enjoy their company, and still recognise that they're not the person you want as your life partner. Not every meaningful relationship has to be romantic.
