Someone once asked...

“I have a little brother. He's 6 and I'm 16. He was diagnosed with autism when he was 3, and the doctors said that it will go away with time. He has improved a lot since he was 3, and I'm really proud of him for that. But he still is autistic. My mum, she's not mentally well. She's extremely depressed and refuses to get help, she's chronically ill too, aiding to her depression. My father isn't very far away from depression as well but he handles it better. He's nice to me, but not my brother. Often times he yells on him extremely loud when he's being annoying and hits him extremely hard. My mother is very tensed about his studies, so she makes him study all day. He does 6 hours of school, 2 hours of afterschool, and he studies at home for almost 2 hours more. He's 6 for god's sake. And she doesn't do a good job teaching him at all. He's an extremely shitty leaner, although I shouldn't say this, but it is what it is. He doesn't listen no matter how hard you try, so my mum yells on him. A lot. A lot lot lot too much. Trauma inducing yellings and beatings which he will carry till the day he dies. It's scary, so scary. She throws around tables and shit. One day she got so angry on him and since he went to school she couldn't take it out on him, so she tried to kick me out. I'm a girl, and I'm from a very unsafe 3rd world country. So trying to kick me out was a huge thing. Please please please tell me ways I can savey brother. He's going to have so much trauma when he grows up. He's going through one of the worst imaginable chilhoods possible.”

Someone answered with kindness...

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. As someone who is a bit older than you I salute to your bravery and courage to help your brother, you're really aware of your situation and is more understanding towards him than your parents. I don't really have much advice to your situation but if you have grandparents from either sides where you feel like could give your brother and you a better environment then maybe you should consider that. I'm also from a 3rd world country and I know how hard it is to struggle for daily stuff if you get kicked out. As you're still young you may consider trying to take some simple part time since studying while working is hard and if things get really worse, which I hope would not, you guys may ask some help from concerned adults who can deal better to your parents and your brother since your situation is really serious. I hope you have a better situation and bid you good luck.
