Someone once asked...
Someone answered with kindness...
You learn to carry your own responsibility, and let them carry theirs. Why does it feel like you hold the conversation all by yourself when it was always meant to be a connection to another soul? First, slow down and become comfortable in silence. This is not your responsibility, and mostly it is not infinitely serious. Playfulness helps to not see a bad conversation as a personal failure. Some people connect by asking questions, and others connect by sharing statements, and there is a whole intricate movement from public to private themes that is needed to build trust and intimacy over time. Let it be what it is. Maybe they are just bad conversationalists, or connect in different ways, or at a different pace than you. Keep your expectations low and see what they bring to the table (and learn to walk on with no ill will when the conversation is not connecting - that's okay too, not everything is meant to be today)
