Someone once asked...

How do I stop being afraid of disappointing my parents?

Someone answered with kindness...

My mother wanted me to become a doctor. I became a monk instead. For two years she wouldn't fully look me in the eye when we spoke. I used to think I owed her my whole life as repayment for mine. It took me a long time to understand: her fear for my future was real, but it was still her fear, not my future. She came around, eventually. Not because I convinced her, but because I kept living my life anyway, steadily, without asking for permission. Some parents need to see you land safely before they can let go. Give them time. But don't wait for their nod before you jump.
