A man once asked me how long grief was supposed to last after a relationship ended. I told him I didn't know, and that anyone who gives you a number is guessing. What I did tell him: moving on isn't a day you arrive at. It's not waking up and suddenly not caring. It's more like the ache taking up less and less room in a life that keeps growing around it, until one day you notice it's smaller than the rest of you, instead of bigger.
