Someone once asked...

“Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been really quiet and introverted. In my early teen years, I was also bullied for my looks and that kind of pushed me deeper into my shell. I’m 18 now, and I think I’m slightly more pleasant to look at, cause people approach me for conversations on their own instead of treating me as they used to when I was younger. I’m not as socially anxious as I was before, but going thru all of that made me really selective about the people I surround myself with. Now I’m stuck in a weird spot, where I do make small talk with people but don’t let them come any closer but also feel the loneliness creeping in at times. I don’t know, is this what protecting my peace is supposed to feel like? Or am I just making things worse for myself?”

Don't be scared to let people in. Protecting yourself can only get you so far. Keep yourself guarded, but if someone is a genuinely good person by your judgement, let them in! They can make life a hell of a lot easier to bear. BUT keep yourself aware of red flags. If somone makes you feel trapped or uncomfortable to hang around with, distance yourself! Your gut is powerful. You got it!
